Crude oil retreated on profit-taking after the rally the day before. The front-month contract for WTI crude oil slipped -0.32% while the Brent crude contract, after initially soaring to a 11-month high of 111.04, ended the day -0.18% lower. Gold continued to trade below 1300 but recorded an intra-day gain of +0.54%.

Busy Week Ahead with Geopolitical Tensions and US Dataflow Occupying Headlines
Commodities pick up on Monday, ahead of a busy week in the US. However, we expect volatility should remain high as confluence of factors including, escalated tensions in Ukraine, FOMC policy meeting, US employment report and crude stockpile vs maintenance, should direct price movement. In eastern Ukraine, pro-Russia rebels on Sunday detained and displayed in an auditorium 8 members of a European military observer mission and later released one for health reasons.
