Strength in markets and ease in investors’ fear all dissipated as Germany’s financial regulator imposed restrictions on short sales. Bafin announced to ban naked short-selling and speculating on Eurozone government bonds with CDS in order to tame ‘exceptional volatility’ and stabilize financial markets. The regulation will be effective immediately and last until the end of March 2011. Apart from on Eurozone sovereign bond and CDS, the rule will also apply to shares of a group of 10 leading German financial stocks.<\/p>\n
