Market sentiment soured as mixed (but mostly disappointing) economic data raised worries over global economic slowdown. Commodities were hit hard with all complexes recording significant losses during the week. Silver was no doubt the worst performer with a -27.4% slump amid long liquidation and CME's increases of margin requirements. Gold also dropped, taking the cue from the broad-based selloff in the sector, but the losses were relatively mild. We believe this reflected the metal's strong underlying fundamentals. The energy complex plummeted more than -10%. The sharp fall in WTI crude than Brent crude was probably due to the huge increase in crude oil inventory as well as Cushing stock-build.<\/p>\n
