Commodities were sold down yesterday as S&P's downgrade of Greece's credit rating intensified sovereign crisis concerns in the European periphery, Lacker's comments on disappointing US recovery spurred slowdown fears and NDRC's report on oil demand reduction was viewed as further evidence that the likelihood of hard landing in China has increased. The front-month contract for WTI crude oil plunged to a 1-month low of 96.13 before closing at 97.3, down -2.00%. The equivalent Brent crude contract initially fell to a 3-day low of 117.12 but then reversed and settled at 119.1, up +0.27%. The WTI-Brent spread widened to 21.8 amid supply disruption in the North Sea and fighting in Libya.<\/p>\n
