Oil and Gold Rally as Fighting in Libya Escalated. Unrest in Saudi Grows
Oil prices extended gains in Asian session on Monday amid news that fighting in Libya intensified as Qaddafi's army launched counter-attacks against the rebels. The front-month contract for WTI crude oil price rallied to as high as 105.92, a level not seen since September 2008, earlier in the day while corresponding Brent crude contract soared to 116.95. Gold also jumped, pressing to break a new high again as safe-haven demand overshadowed ECB's potential rate hike.
