Sentiment Dampened Further on Weak Loan Growth in China, New Zealand Earthquakes

Market sentiment remained weak amid fears over global economic slowdown. As we have only few economic indicators today, investors put their focus on China's disappointing bank lending in May, viewing it as further evidence of slowdown. New loans slipped -13.73% to RMB551.6B in May, compared with consensus of RMB650B, while the reading for the first 5 months of the year totaled RMB3.55 trillion, -11.66% lower than a year ago.
