US Reaches Short-Term Deal to Lift Debt Ceiling and Re-open the Government

The US Congress eventually passed a bill, agreeing to extend the Treasury's borrowing authority until February 7 and funding of the government until January 15. The bill was passed by 81-18 in the Democratic-controlled Senate and then by 285-144 in the House of Representatives. The deal is expected to be signed by the White House before the deadline to raise the US$ 16.7 trillion limit. The bill offers only a temporary solution to the fiscal budget in the US.
