Commodities Rally as MENA Tensions Intensify. G-7 Agrees Joint Intervention in Yen

Volatile trading yesterday was driven by diverging views over Japan's crisis and unrest in the MENA region. Investors remained worried about the situation in Japan with the yen surging to a post-war high of 76.31 against the US dollar on March 16 as risk aversion has prompted Japanese investors to hold back on their overseas buying of assets and keep their funds onshore. Today in Asia, the yen pared the strength as G-7 announced joint intervention on the currency.
