Brent crude oil prices close Friday’s trading session back around $111 a barrel as a bullish trading week for oil takes a cue from the US dollar, which remains mixed in currency market trading.
Brent Oil Futures – Closing Price
Brent crude oil futures for August 2011 delivery ended the week’s trading session at $111.50 a barrel on the ICE Futures Exchange yesterday evening, $6.08 higher than last week’s closing price of $105.42 a barrel.
Meanwhile, the US dollar traded slightly higher on Friday, as a bigger than expected decline in US consumer sentiment partially offset support from an unexpected climb in manufacturing activity for June.
The ICE US Dollar Index, which tracks the US dollar against six major world currencies, stood at 74.364, a modest gain from 74.314 at the close on Thursday.
A stronger US dollar tends to push oil prices lower as they become more expensive for buyers using other currencies.
