Sentiment Sours as Debt Concerns Linger. Data Offer Little to Help

Gold price took a breather and closed modestly lower after rising to a new all-time high of 1628.8 yesterday, as the US dollar rebounded technically after days of falls. The risk profile has not changed as the US debt ceiling made little progress while the sovereign crisis in the European periphery remained unresolved. Oil prices declined with the front-month contract for WTI crude oil falling more sharply that the equivalent Brent crude contract as US oil inventories increased more than expected.
