Euro unsettled as questions remain over Greece’s austerity and Spanish aid package
The euro continues to be unsettled in trading today as uncertainty over whether Greece can agree to a deal on austerity and with no sign of when Spain might request aid continues to push the currency lower against the US dollar and Japanese yen.

As of 09:26 today, one euro bought 0.80540 UK pound sterling, 1.29340 US dollars and 102.69450 Japanese yen.
Greece needs a comprehensive deal on an austerity package to unlock its next tranche of aid before it runs out of cash in mid-November. Meanwhile, unless Spain formally seeks a rescue, sentiment toward the euro is unlikely to turn positive anytime soon.
The euro is expected to stay subdued against the US dollar and the Japanese yen, with investors preferring safe haven currencies also on renewed worries about weak earnings from top companies Europe.
