Asian shares fluctuated as Chinese President Xi Jinping suggested that the country should adapt to normal growth. Xinhua News Agency reported that the country is still in a “significant period of strategic opportunity” but the government must take “timely countermeasures to reduce potential negative effects”. China’s headline CPI moderated to +1.8% y/y in April from +2.4% a month ago. Trade surplus, however, surprisingly widened in April as growth in exports outpaced that in imports.
